Gate pricing is per project, because a gate is priced by its size, its material, and how it opens. The biggest drivers are single vs. double, walk-gate vs. driveway width, the material (wood, aluminum, ornamental steel, or chain link), and whether it's manual or automated with access control. A simple walk gate added to a fence is modest; a wide automated driveway gate with an operator and keypad is a larger investment. Often, yes. If your existing gate is structurally sound and built for the weight, we can add a swing or slide operator and access control to it. If it was built as a hand-latched gate, it may need reinforcement or a rebuild to survive daily automated cycles — we'll tell you honestly at the estimate which way makes sense.

Keypads, wireless and wired intercoms with video, phone-app and smart-home control, key-fob and card readers, and vehicle loop sensors that open the gate as you pull up. Every automated gate we install also gets the safety essentials: photo-eye sensors that stop the gate on an obstruction, a manual release for power outages, and battery backup so you're never locked in or out.

That's the advantage of using one contractor for the fence and the gate. We match the material, height, color, and picket or board spacing so the gate reads as part of the fence rather than a bolt-on. If we didn't build the original fence, we'll match it as closely as the existing materials allow.

Sometimes — it depends on your city, your HOA, and how close the gate sits to the road or sidewalk. Some jurisdictions also require the gate to swing away from the public right-of-way or to sit a set distance back from the street. A single-lane driveway gate is usually 10 to 12 feet wide; a two-lane or circular drive often runs 14 to 16 feet, split into a double gate. We field-measure your opening and factor in turning room, slope, and how your vehicles approach before recommending a width.

Most standalone gates are a one-day install once the materials are in. A custom-fabricated or automated gate takes longer because of the build plus the electrical and access-control wiring — we'll give you a realistic timeline with your quote.
